As a reminder to self: Civilisations end. This is the concept underpinning most Japanese Monster-Movies. It was argued, that it was the rashness of the atomic bomb that made Japan (until now) the only civilisation capable of imagining the abrupt wipe-out of the world as a whole. For the rest of us, the end of the world remains an abstract concept, that we can only experience in movies. The prospect of the world going down in flames is not enough to entice any kind of prevailing action: When a loved one dies, we experience, that it does not get any worse than this.
